6:00 PM BOARD MEETING
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM Family Spirit Night at McDonald's
8:45 AM PTA Meeting
The second trimester concluded on February 21st. You have received report cards and this is a great opportunity for you and your child to discuss their progress. Look at their strengths and celebrate the areas in which they are doing well. Also, look at the areas that they may want to focus on during the third trimester. It is helpful to develop a plan on how they can work to improve in that area. A few ideas might include: complete that assignment first when doing homework, finding other opportunities to work in that subject area, talk to your child’s teacher to find ways you can help your child and check their weekly work that comes home to monitor progress. Dedicating time and attention to your child and their school progress will make a considerable difference in their success.
As a reminder, the State Department of Education has suspended the CST tests for this school year, except for 5th grade science. In replacement of the CST Test, students in grades 3-6 will take a practice Smarter Balanced Assessment. Students will have a six week window beginning in March to take these computer adapted assessments as a practice test. We will not receive results based on their performance this year. It is considered a “test of the test.” We look forward to preparing our students for these assessments. If you are interested in learning more information, go to the State Department of Education’s Website at http://www.cde.ca.gov and look up Smarter Balanced Assessments. Students will begin taking the Smarter Balanced Assessments on March 26th. The testing window will end on April 18th. During this time attendance is crucial in getting all of our students exposed to the new assessments. Thank you for your support in this area.
This year Open House will be held on May 8th for grades 1 – 6 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Kindergarten will hold their Open House on March 13th from 5:00pm – 6:00pm. Our choral performances will be held on May 15th during the regular school day. This is different from the past, so please mark your calendars.
As we move into the third trimester, we encourage you to stay involved. With spring just around the corner, we would love to have all students focused and putting forth their best effort. Checking homework, reviewing weekly assignments and having conversations with your child will show them that we are all working together toward academic excellence.
Thank you for encouraging your child in their educational endeavors and for your continued support of our goal to promote lifelong learners at Hermosa School.
