It is my honor to welcome you to Alta Loma Junior High for the 2019-2020 school year. Whether you are new to ALJH or returning for another year, we invite you to join us in constructing excellence in all that we do.
Most of you are aware that there are ongoing renovation projects happening across our campus. For instance, our music, art, and ASB rooms are newly modernized and were completed just in time for the new school year to begin. Meanwhile, many of our 8th grade teachers have been displaced as their classrooms in the 400 building are undergoing their own transformation. These rooms are expected to be ready later this year, but in the meantime, our teachers are committed to constructing excellence in their temporary rooms. This renovation process will continue throughout the year, moving on to each and every building until every classroom on campus has been thoroughly modernized.
However, as with any renovation, the process that leads to these transformations can also create new challenges. As a staff, we are committed to “constructing excellence”, even as we face the obstacles that a project of this magnitude will bring. Constructing excellence means that we will choose to intentionally focus on maintaining our academic standards, we will continue to push our students to achieve their personal best, and we will do everything within our power to minimize the impact of this project on our students.
But we cannot construct excellence without your support at home. You, too, can be a part of constructing excellence on our campus by reinforcing good study habits and encouraging your student to do the hard work that is necessary to achieve their personal best. Reach out to our teachers and staff if you find yourself with questions on curriculum, activities, or anything else impacting your student’s school experience. Contact information for our teachers and office staff is available on our school website. And encourage your student to get involved with extracurricular activities that interest them. Club info day is coming on August 23rd and our after-school sports programs will kick off in September with Volleyball and Football. Whatever it looks like for your individual student, support them and encourage them to construct excellence in their own life.
At the end of this year, I believe we will find that the outcome is worth the cost. We will have renovated buildings, equipped with enhanced technology and new furnishings designed to stimulate learning. And we will have students who have learned that challenges are often opportunities to construct excellence and make choices that will develop us into the people we were meant to be. I am so proud to be the Principal at ALJH this year, and I cannot wait to see the excellence develop in each and every one of our students.
