Dear Superstar Families,
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your summer. As you likely know from Superintendent Jim Moore’s letter to families, the Alta Loma School District will be starting the 20-21 school year with Distance Learning. Our official start date is August 10th. These difficult decisions were made just prior to our Governor mandating all public and private schools to postpone all face to face instruction in San Bernardino County based on the California Department of Public Health County Watch List.
We miss our students and families tremendously and can’t wait to return to in-person instruction, but of course, we need to do all that we can to keep our Superstar Family safe. In the meantime, this Distance Learning will be significantly different from the Learning Opportunities offered last spring.
For a detailed description of this program, please visit our District Website, https://www.alsd.k12.ca.us. It will be a rigorous, comprehensive plan that will deliver high quality instruction on grade level standards that are assessed, graded and recorded on our report cards. Students will be following a daily schedule that is similar to traditional school. Attendance will be taken daily, and it will be important that our students have an effective space in which to focus and learn as they adapt to this daily routine and schedule for learning.
We will be serving lunch daily from campus during our scheduled lunch break. Please visit our District Website to manage lunch accounts and fill out the application for the National School Lunch Program, which provides free or reduced-price meals to our students. Here is a link: https://family.titank12.com/application/new?lang=English&identifier=ZMN2R4 The online application will be available on July 31st. We will have hard copy applications available in our school office, as well. We would be happy to assist you with this process.
August 10th, our first day of school will be an exciting opportunity for you and our students to come to campus to meet your child’s teacher, receive textbooks, supplies and materials for learning. There will be detailed instructions including safety precautions and a schedule sent out to ensure that this event is safe and efficient. It will also be a special day to celebrate the start of the 20-21 school year and hopefully bring a smile to our students’ faces. Our theme around campus this year is “Superstars Are Ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll!”, as we believe it is a great time for all of us to be upbeat and loud and proud. Stork is a truly exceptional school. I am fortunate to serve with this team of teachers and support staff, who exemplify dedication, compassion, creativity and professionalism. During this challenging time, they will set a high bar of excellence within our community and do all that they can to help your child grow academically, socially and emotionally. We know this time is very challenging for our families and students, and we are dedicated to making Distance Learning a quality educational program. Please be patient as we embark upon the journey. We will thoroughly plan our program, but we will inevitably encounter some glitches and to continue to hone and improve the program.
Thank you for patience, flexibility, trust and partnership as we embark upon the 20-21 school year. I want to reiterate we are very excited to see students and families briefly on August 10th and back for on campus learning as soon as possible. Please feel free to contact me or our Assistant Principal, Ms. Sosa, at any time. Our door is always open.
