Summer L.E.A.P. Enrichment Program Keeps Students Engaged During June
With the end of the regular school year at the end of May, the unofficial start of summer for students and families in the Alta Loma School District begins once the calendar flips to June.
There’s no better way to keep students busy, active and mentally engaged during the non-school months than with learning activities that not only keep them motivated, but also are fun.
ALSD will once again present its Learning Enrichment Activities and Projects (LEAP) summer enrichment program over two separate two-week sessions from June 4-15 and June 18-29. Students from all schools in the District are encouraged to participate in one or both sessions.
“What makes the LEAP program special is that we offer enrichment courses that are typically not offered during the regular school year,” said ALSD Superintendent James Moore. “The curriculum is designed to be fun and participatory so that students can learn by doing hands-on projects that inspire them to be creative, innovative and collaborative. We want them to learn to communicate and think critically, all while enjoying what they are doing.”
Taught by credentialed teachers, classes are offered for elementary and junior high school students. Each session will offer classes from 8-10 a.m. and 10 a.m.-noon.
“We like to transition students straight from the regular school year to this program so they keep some of that learning momentum, but with a different set of subjects from what they had previously been studying,” Moore said. “It’s also a good time because many families wait until July before taking their summer vacations, allowing for more students to participate.”
Information about fees, registration, course descriptions, schedules and more will soon be available on a LEAP into Summer link on the Alta Loma School District website.
