Degrees and Certifications:
BA Liberal Studies
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! I cannot tell you how excited I am to be joining the Jasper team this year! It is going to be a great year!
I have deep roots in Alta Loma and I am happy to be teaching in my home district. To give some background on myself, my husband and I have been together 25 years, married 20 of those years. We have raised four amazing children together here in the Alta Loma School District, all of which are teenagers now. My husband and I were raised in this district as well as my mom and aunts. My grandparents moved here as teenagers. A little fun fact, the home my great grandmother used to own is across the street and a few houses up from Jasper. :)
I went to Cal Poly Pomona originally to follow in my dad's footsteps to be a computer programmer. I decided quickly that computer programming was not my passion and changed my major to liberal studies with an emphasis on ethinic and women's studies. Another little fun fact, my dad went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and did the exact opposite, he started to pursue teaching and then became a computer programmer. My grandparents and my aunt on my dad's side were all teachers. I graduated from Cal Poly and began my credential program, just before starting student teaching, I had my first son. I made the decision to stay home with him and put my teaching career on hold. I had all four of our kids over the course of 4 years and 4 months and ended up staying at home with them for 13 years. I did sub during that time and spent the majority of that time subbing at Carnelian. When my oldest son was in 2nd grade, his teachers encouraged me to get back into teaching, so I went back to school only to find out I had to retake the ENTIRE credential program. Same classes, same professors, same assignments, not to mention 4 kids and a husband in tow this time around, but I made it!! I finally earned my credential in March of 2011.
I spent a couple more years subbing in Alta Loma before being hired in 2013 at Mission Elementary in Ontario. I worked at Mission for 4 years teaching 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades. Last year I moved to Wiltsey Middle School in Ontario to teach 6th grade math and science. I am a lifelong learner and spent much of my time in OMSD pursuing professional development. I have developed my teaching practice through those trainings and I feel prepared to bring the students at Jasper the very best education possible. I am thankful for my time in OMSD, they treated me well, but it was time to come home. I am so thankful and excited for the opportunity to come home to ALSD and to join the Jasper team this year!
