Homework is an extension of classroom instruction related to learning objectives and grade-level content standards. It may include pencil and paper tasks as well as reading, internet searches, watching a specific program, long-term projects, etc. With the exception of long-term projects, homework should not be assigned on weekends or during winter or spring break.
Based on research, the following time guidelines have been established:
- Primary students: 10-30 minutes per night.
- Upper elementary students: 30-90 minutes per night.
- Middle school/junior high students: 50-120 minutes per night.
