Superintendent Hendricks' Welcome Back Letter
Welcome to the 2021-2022 School Year!
We are so happy to have welcomed back almost 5,600 students beginning on August 9, 2021. After having joined Alta Loma School District just six months ago, I’m thrilled to be starting this year’s journey with you. There is a tremendous amount of joy on our school campuses, and a lot to be grateful for as we begin our academic year. ALSD has opened all sites for full time learning for students whose families wish to have them attend in person. In addition, approximately ninety of our scholars are engaging in their academic programs through ALLTIS, our long-term, independent study option. ALLTIS
Through the student focused stewardship of our Board of Trustees, Alta Loma School District has made significant commitments to staffing in order to provide additional academic and wellness services for students as they reacclimate to school. Structures present now include added support for attendance and behavior, and increased counseling services which include a Behavior Health Therapist at both junior high schools. All elementary schools will benefit from Literacy Labs with new guided reading books. Paraprofessional support has been increased in first grade; math support is being provided through more instructional aide positions and a double block math option in Grades 7 and 8. Online homework support for students in Grades 4-8 is being piloted through Paper. You can access a virtual Parent Paper Training on Thursday, September 9, at 6:00 pm at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84656730222?pwd=aEw3RWJkbEoxaUFoQ2FsOVpueHdiUT09#success. Classrooms have been stocked with new Chromebooks for students, replacing equipment that was so extensively used during distance learning.
Current guidance from the California Department of Public Health, as well as our San Bernardino County Public Health Department, requires that all individuals wear face-coverings while indoors at school facilities. Staff at our District Support Center (DSC) are adhering to the same guidelines. Masks are not required outdoors at this time, and outdoor areas are being maximized for lunches as well as for learning opportunities. Playground equipment is available for student use. ALSD continues the practice of thorough cleaning and disinfecting, and we also continue to focus on healthy life habits such as handwashing, getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated and eating nutritious foods. Safety remains a top priority as we seek to keep our students and staff healthy and at school! We will continue to post on the District website as public health guidance evolves to keep our community updated.
I look forward to working with you to actualize our Mission Statement on behalf of each student:
"Inspiring Learners for a Lifetime"
The Alta Loma School District,
in partnership with parents and community, provides a safe, supportive, and
fiscally responsible environment where students develop a solid foundation to
