Superintendent's Welcome Letter

July 25, 2022

Dear Alta Loma School District Community,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! I would like to take this opportunity to say I consider it a true privilege to serve as your Superintendent of Schools. I am honored and excited to start this next chapter of my career in such an outstanding community and surrounded by the extraordinary staff that strive for excellence each day. The Alta Loma School District has earned a reputation for academic excellence over the years, as well as for offering exemplary extracurricular opportunities for all students. As a result, I am both humbled and excited to help our community build upon its past success.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and my family. My husband Craig and I have spent the last 35 years together. We have one 19 year old son, Tyler. We are avid sports enthusiasts, supporting many of the Los Angeles teams, including the Kings, Lakers, Rams, and Dodgers. We can often be found attending local Reign games, as ice hockey is our family’s favorite sport. Now that Tyler is attending school in Philadelphia, Craig and I are adjusting to the “empty nest” lifestyle. This has afforded us the opportunity to immerse ourselves into the Alta Loma School District community and we look forward to meeting staff, students, parents and the greater community as we begin our educational journey together.

As an educator for 32 years, I take my responsibility to provide a quality and well-rounded education for all students very seriously. As your Superintendent, it is my #1 goal to maintain and grow a rigorous educational environment that allows all students to feel a sense of belonging and to grow academically. It is critical that our Alta Loma School District students graduate from high school with the skills necessary to pursue and achieve their lifelong dreams and to be lifelong learners. Educating our youth and preparing them for their futures is the most important mission we have as educators, and it is through a servant leadership style that I commit to lead by example with fairness, transparency, and respect in order to reach this end goal.

With Warmest Regards,

Sherry Smith
