Thompson Named Associate Superintendent for Educational Services

Longtime educator and administrator Loren “Lori” Thompson has been named the Alta Loma School District’s associate superintendent for educational services, beginning Jan. 1.

She replaces Melinda Early, who is retiring in December.

Thompson served in a similar role with the Upland Unified School District as assistant superintendent of educational services from 2012-2014.

She currently serves as ALSD’s director of special education, a role she has held since 2016 after leading Vineyard Junior High School as principal from 2014-2106.

“We’re thrilled to have someone with Lori’s leadership experience, knowledge and passion, to continue the growth and progress that we’ve enjoyed over the past several years,” said ALSD Superintendent James Moore.

“We look forward to the continuity Lori will bring to the position– a position she has held in the past. We are excited to more closely integrate the special education department and ed services departments. We’re in great shape moving forward.”

Prior to joining the Alta Loma School District, Thompson, an Upland resident, served in a variety of administrative and teaching roles in the Upland Unified School District. She was the district’s director of student services and principal of both Valencia and Cabrillo elementary schools and also assistant principal at Cabrillo.

Thompson earned an Honorary Service Award from Valencia, where she also taught for many years. Previously, she taught at CJ Morris Elementary School in the Walnut Valley Unified School District, where she was the Teacher of the Year.

A member of the Association of California Administrators and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. Thompson holds a number of professional training certifications.
