First Day of Distance Learning Classes is Aug. 10

Alta Loma schools will begin Monday, Aug. 10, with a full distance learning model. Eighth graders at Alta Loma and Vineyard junior high schools will start distance learning classes on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

All students in the Alta Loma School District will attend school virtually with their assigned teachers and classmates. Comprehensive and rigorous instruction will follow the grade level curriculum in a planned approach that will allow students to transition back to classroom instruction seamlessly should their families choose to do so when it is determined that in-person instruction is once again safe and practical. Families may also elect to have their students continue in a distance program.

Individual teachers will provide specific information about their classes during virtual Back-to-School Nights within the first few weeks of school. Dates and details for those events will be announced.

Across all distance learning classes, students will participate in daily live online interactions with their teacher for instruction on a Monday-through-Friday basis. Online sessions will include whole-class instruction, small group instruction and individual student virtual meetings for individual instruction and progress monitoring. Attendance will be taken during virtual classes and assignments will be graded. Report cards will be issued at each trimester.

Teachers will provide feedback to students during virtual classes and will also be available outside of school hours to communicate with families regarding instruction, assignments and student progress.

Students will receive appropriate school materials, including textbooks, workbooks, access to online programs and a Chromebook, if needed.

Schools will continue to offer counseling, speech, Special Education and intervention services and English Language Learner support.

Schools will operate on a regular Monday-through-Friday schedule during the distance learning period. There are no classes on several holidays and other regularly scheduled closures throughout the year, beginning with Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7. There are no classes on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, or during the Thanksgiving week of Nov. 23-27.

ALSD schools and district offices will be closed for winter break beginning on Friday, Dec. 18, until Monday, Jan. 4.

Additional closures are Monday, Jan. 18, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Lincoln’s Birthday on Monday, Feb. 8; and Presidents’ Day on Monday, Feb. 15. Spring recess is March 22-26.

The first trimester ends Friday, Oct. 30, followed by the second trimester from Nov. 2-Feb. 19. The final trimester and regular school year run through Wednesday, May 25, for kindergarten through seventh grade. The last day of school for eighth graders is Thursday, May 26, which is the scheduled eighth grade promotion day for Vineyard and Alta Loma junior high schools.

Schools also will observe several modified instruction schedule days for parent-teacher conferences. Check individual school schedules for times and dates.
