PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and Have a GREAT Cardinal Day!

Hello Carnelian Community!
It is May at Carnelian, which means we are coming close to the end of another spectacular school year! This year, we focused on refining and improving our PBIS program and instilling in our students and community what it means to do things, "The Cardinal Way". Our hard work was validated in the results of our LCAP survey, which showed that a majority of our community either strongly agreed or agreed that Carnelian is both a physically and emotionally safe place for students. We will continue to move our work forward as we monitor the progress of our students and create clarification in the implementation of our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) for students in the areas of academics, behavior and social emotional well-being. As we head into the next school year, we will use the results of our LCAP survey, along with student performance data, to help drive our instructions and next steps for Carnelian. A huge thanks to our entire staff, Leadership Team (PBIS Team), School Site Council and PTA for supporting us through this school year.
As we head into this first full week of May, our PTA and students will be showing their heartfelt appreciation to Carnelian Teachers and Staff as we enter into Teacher Appreciation Week! We will all be showing our gratitude for their hard work during this fun, 90's theme week full of gifts to show our thanks for all that they do! This week, PTA is also hosting the Scholastic Book Fair in the library. This is a Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) event, so visit the library during Open House or load up your student's e-wallet so they can shop at school!
Our 5th and 6th grade band students will be participating in the West Side District Band Concert on Monday, May 5th at ALHS. They have been working hard on their instruments and we can't wait to see this culminating musical event! Thursday, May 8th, we will get to celebrate all of the hard work our Cardinal students and staff have put into this 24-25 school year by welcoming the community into our classrooms for Open House from 5:00-6:00 p.m. The Book Fair will be open that night as well! Tuesday, May 13th is our Carnelian Talent Show in the MPR. We can't wait to see the creativity and knacks our students in grades 3-6 have for entertainment. This year, we will be saying goodbye to our 5th and 6th grade students on May 21st at their end of year awards assemblies. The 25-26 school year will officially mark Carnelian as a CHAMPS - 5th grade elementary campus, as 6th grade will now be housed at the middle school. This will be a very special end of year for our Cardinal upper grade students and we know they will continue to do things "The Cardinal Way", even after they move to the middle school and beyond!
Keep your eye on social media, emails and flyers that will be coming home with more specific information about the upcoming events in May. If you have not downloaded the Alta Loma School District app for your phone, please download it as soon as possible. You can select Carnelian Elementary as your school and view anything that is posted to the app. We want to communicate information out to our community as efficiently as we can - check us out on instagram too! Our Carnelian PTA does an incredible job of posting information and updates on Instagram. We always encourage our community and our students to continue to "Be safe, Be Kind, Be Proud and have a GREAT Cardinal Day!"
