California Junior Scholastic Federation

The California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) is a statewide honor society that recognizes outstanding scholarship, service, and citizenship among students in grades 7–9. Because CJSF is governed by state bylaws, 6th grade students are not eligible for membership.

Membership in CJSF encourages students to pursue academic excellence while recognizing their hard work and achievement. Students who maintain membership over multiple semesters may earn Honor Member status by the end of 8th grade. Honor Members receive special recognition during our end-of-year awards program, are recognized in the promotion program, and have the option to purchase and wear a CJSF Honor Member medallion at promotion.

Throughout the year, CJSF members may also have opportunities to participate in special activities and events sponsored by the school. In recent years, these have included activities such as the annual Knott's Berry Farm trip for eligible members. Participation in CJSF activities is subject to school eligibility requirements, including not being on the school's Restricted List.

Students may qualify for CJSF each semester during their 7th and 8th grade years using their final semester grades. The application period typically opens for two weeks beginning the Monday after semester grades have been posted in Infinite Campus. No applications will be accepted after the application window has closed.

Announcements and application information will be shared through the student broadcast, morning announcements, and the Friday Wrap-Up.

Eligibility

Students must be in the seventh or eighth grade to be eligible for CJSF based on state bylaws. Eligibility notices typically go out on or around the Monday following the posting of report cards. To be eligible, a student must meet ALL of the criteria below during the previous semester.

  1. A student must qualify by earning a minimum of 8 points in academic classes (mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies).

    • A’s are worth 3 points.

    • A "B" counts as 1 point (in Integrated Math 8, a B counts as 2 points).

    • You must have a grade of "C" or better in physical education and your elective.

    • An "N" or "U" in citizenship in any class will disqualify a student.

  2. Qualifying grades do not automatically confer membership. Eligible students must submit a completed application and pay the $5.00 membership dues at the Student Store during the application window. (Any student who is unable to pay the $5.00 dues should see Mrs. Collins, Assistant Principal for Student Services, prior to the final day to submit dues and membership applications.)

  3. Retroactive memberships are not available. Students must submit their membership application and dues during the two-week application window following the posting of semester grades.

Honor Member Award Eligibility

Eligible 8th grade students will have the option to purchase and wear a special CJSF Honor Member Medallion at promotion. All Honor Members will also receive a certificate and pin during the end-of-year awards program.

To earn Honor Member status, students must have been a CJSF member—qualifying academically and paying membership dues—for a minimum of three semesters.
