Enrichment Opportunities
Alta Loma Junior High is committed to providing meaningful enrichment opportunities that encourage students to explore their interests, think creatively, solve complex problems, and extend learning beyond the classroom. While some opportunities may be designed with GATE-identified students in mind, many enrichment activities are open to any student with an interest in participating.
Throughout the school year, students may have opportunities to participate in district and school-sponsored enrichment experiences such as academic competitions, collaborative projects, leadership activities, and special events. In recent years, these have included opportunities such as the District Enrichment Day, Chess Tournament, Battle of the Books, and a variety of after-school enrichment workshops.
After-school enrichment offerings vary from year to year based on student interest and available resources. Past activities have included introductory coding and robotics, 3D printing, engineering challenges, cheesemaking, creative problem-solving activities, and other hands-on learning experiences.
Enrichment opportunities are coordinated by Mr. Davidson. Information about upcoming activities, sign-ups, and events will be shared with students through the Wolves DEN, Minga, morning announcements, and the Friday Wrap-Up for families.
STEM Opportunities
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning extends beyond the classroom at Alta Loma Junior High through hands-on projects, design challenges, and collaborative learning experiences.
Each year, students have opportunities to participate in projects that encourage innovation, creativity, and real-world problem solving. These experiences often culminate in our annual STEM Showcase, where students share their work with families and the community.
Projects vary from year to year and have included engineering design challenges, robotics, coding, micro programming, interactive exhibits, CO₂-powered car design, and other student-created innovations. Our goal is to provide students with authentic opportunities to design, create, test, revise, and share their ideas while developing skills that will serve them well in high school, college, and future careers.
Information about STEM opportunities and events will be shared throughout the school year through the Wolves DEN, Minga, morning announcements, and the Friday Wrap-Up.
Accelerated Learning Opportunities
Accelerated Coursework
Alta Loma Junior High offers opportunities for students who are ready for additional academic challenge. Placement in accelerated coursework is based on multiple measures and may include assessment data, academic performance, teacher recommendations, and district guidelines.
Students identified for advanced academic opportunities may have the option to enroll in accelerated Language Arts and Mathematics courses during 7th and 8th grade. Accelerated coursework is not offered in 6th grade. Across all grade levels and classrooms, Alta Loma Junior High teachers differentiate instruction to provide appropriate levels of support, challenge, and enrichment so every student has opportunities to grow and succeed.
Elective Credit Opportunities through CJUHSD
In partnership with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District (CJUHSD), students enrolled in select courses may have the opportunity to apply for high school elective credit upon successful completion of the course and enrollment in a participating CJUHSD high school.
Current opportunities include:
Spanish 1 – Students who successfully complete Spanish 1 may be eligible to apply for 10 units of elective credit.
Integrated Math 1 – Students who successfully complete Integrated Math 1 may be eligible to apply for 10 units of elective credit.
Details regarding course eligibility, articulation requirements, timelines, and credit application procedures are provided directly to students and families enrolled in these courses each school year. Course offerings and articulation agreements are established by CJUHSD and are subject to change.
